About the Class

Dates: July 22-26, 2024 Embark on a journey of discovery in our "Alameda Treasure Hunt Field Trip Camp," This camp offers an opportunity for kids to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Alameda through exciting walking field trips, scavenger hunts, and orienteering activities. Orienteering is an outdoor navigation activity involving using a map and compass to navigate from point to point. We'll assist kids to use maps and find their way to various treasures, marked on the map as quickly as possible. It helps children practice following directions, understanding maps, and problem-solving, while they're engaged in an exciting and physically active game. Camp Experience: • Outdoor Learning: This camp is all about exploring outdoors, with a strong focus on walking and physical activity. • Cultural Immersion: Daily excursions offer an immersive experience into the local history, culture, and natural wonders of Alameda. • Social Development: Campers will work in teams, fostering a sense of community, collaboration, and social skills. Daily Overview: Day 1: Historic Park Street (Lunch included) • Morning: Begin with an introduction to orienteering and a team-building scavenger hunt on the way to Park Street. • Afternoon: Visit city hall and other local landmarks and learn about the historical significance of this bustling area. Day 2: Alameda Naval Air Museum - exploring exhibits and learning about the area’s naval history. Participate in a treasure hunt activity around the former naval base. Day 3: Crown Memorial State Beach - Scavenger hunt and learning about local marine life and ecosystems. Sandcastle building contest. Day 4: Alameda’s Victorian Homes - Sketching and photographing the unique architecture Day 5: Alameda Art and Food Tour (Lunch included) Details & Logistics: • Age Group: 5-10 years. • Drop Off: 8:45–9:00am | Pick Up: 4:00pm | Extended Hours: 8:30am–5:30pm. • Lunch: Bring a labeled water bottle, two hearty snacks, and a nut-free lunch. • Attire: Comfortable, movement-friendly clothing. The kids should be prepared for plenty of walking. Members - please use mode "Member75" for a discount. • Note: No refunds on camp tuition within 45 days of the start of camp. Cancellation requests made 45 days+ from camp start incur a $50 cancellation fee, and 3% payment processing cost. •Use code “Siblings10” on the 2nd child.
