About the Class

Dates: August 5-9, 2024 Each day, campers will engage in hands-on STEM challenges inspired by historical and modern feats of engineering, with lunch and field games at Littlejohn Park. Camp Features: • Hands-On Learning: Each day's challenge is crafted to encourage problem-solving, creativity, and a practical understanding of engineering concepts. • Balanced Day Structure: Combine STEM activities with outdoor play and social interaction, catering to a range of interests and learning styles. Daily Overview: Day 1: Ancient Egypt Exploration: Start with a dive into the world of Ancient Egypt. Learn about Egyptian engineering and design a model chariot, integrating lessons on velocity and innovation. Day 2: Antarctic Engineering Adventures: Explore the harsh climate of Antarctica and start designing an insulating shelter, focusing on insulation techniques and understanding freezing points, tied with lessons on geoscience and marine biology. Day 3: Greek Innovation Day: Discover the engineering marvels of Ancient Greece, beginning the construction of a simple machine playground, applying principles of mechanical engineering. Day 4: British Scientific Exploration: Learn about the historical developments in England, starting with the construction of a pinhole camera, delving into the science of light refraction and optics. Day 5: Chilean Solar Energy Challenge: Explore Chile's advances in solar energy and begin creating a solar car model, focusing on clean energy concepts and the basics of electrical engineering. Join us at the "Global Engineering Quest" for a journey through time and around the world, where history, culture, and STEM collide in an exciting, educational adventure! Details & Logistics: • Age Group: 5-10 years. • Drop Off: 8:45–9:00am | Pick Up: 4:00pm | Extended Hours: 8:30am–5:30pm. • Lunch: Bring a labeled water bottle, two hearty snacks, and a nut-free lunch. • Attire: Comfortable, movement-friendly clothing. Note: We’re a "no-shoes" facility, recommend trampoline socks. • Belongings: Leave toys and personal items at home or in the lobby cubbies. Cancellation requests made 45 days+ from camp start incur a $50 cancellation fee, and 3% payment processing cost. • Please use code “Siblings10” for a 10% discount on the 2nd child.
